Campus Beauty
Attractive

WPI's 7-week term system is uniquely intense — you're essentially always either in finals mode or starting fresh. Over 30% of students go Greek, and Greek Carnival is a campus highlight, but the social scene is secondary to the project-based curriculum that defines the WPI experience. The collaborative culture is real (most coursework is team-based), and Worcester offers just enough off-campus options without being a distraction.

An urban hilltop campus in Worcester with a mix of historic red-brick buildings and modern additions, anchored by the attractive Earle Bridge and quad, pleasant but not particularly distinctive.

Safety

Campus SafetySafe

Neighborhood SafetyModerate

Worcester has higher-than-average crime rates for New England. WPI's west-side location is safer than downtown, but urban awareness is recommended.

Based on Clery Act data, student surveys, and local crime statistics.

Insider Tips
Ask about the Goat's Head Trophy -- freshmen and sophomores compete annually in events like rope-pull, cage ball, and WPI-themed Jeopardy to win a bronze statuette of Gompei the goat (named for Gompei Kuwada, Class of 1893, the first goat keeper). WPI is one of only two colleges with a goat mascot.
Visit on Founders Day (November 11) when real goats visit campus and students reenact events from WPI's history -- it's wonderfully quirky and captures the school's personality perfectly.
Find the Hammock & Slackline Zone behind Rubin Campus Center and the quiet reflection space in Gordon Library -- these hidden chill spots are where students actually decompress, not the places on the official tour.
Meditate by the reflecting pool at Higgins Gardens -- a serene spot that most tour groups rush past. Then check out the project labs where students work on their signature Major Qualifying Projects, which are unlike anything at traditional colleges.
Best Time to Visit

September-October for pleasant New England weather and full campus activity. Traditions Day (second Thursday of April) and SpringFest are peak energy times. The $1,000 Visit Award for accepted students makes a spring visit especially worthwhile.
