Campus Beauty
Functional

NC State benefits from sitting in Raleigh with direct access to a real city's bar and restaurant scene, plus Hillsborough Street as the campus social corridor. The Wolfpack identity is strong, especially around basketball and the rivalry with UNC and Duke, and tailgating at Carter-Finley is a legitimate social event. The engineering-heavy student body creates pockets of intense academic pressure in STEM, but the overall culture is approachable and less pretentious than its Triangle neighbors.

The signature red brick buildings and the Venice-inspired Brickyard plaza give NC State a distinctive identity, and the Memorial Belltower is a handsome landmark. Overall a well-maintained, pleasant campus but more functional than scenic, with urban Raleigh encroaching on the edges.

Based on Niche reviews, Princeton Review surveys, student forums, and institutional data.

Safety

Campus SafetySafe

NC State maintains a 24/7 police department with security cameras, emergency phones, late-night transportation, and the WolfAlert notification system. Most incidents involve property crime.

Neighborhood SafetySafe

The Hillsborough Street corridor and surrounding Raleigh neighborhoods are generally safe. Raleigh's overall crime rate is near the national average.

Based on Clery Act data, student surveys, and local crime statistics.
