Cost to Qualify

AI Risk Assessment
AI now handles much of the mechanical side of making a podcast: transcripts, rough edits, cleaning up audio, show notes and episode summaries. It can also make whole shows. TheWrap reported in November 2025 that Inception Point AI, a startup with eight employees, was putting out 3,000 AI-hosted episodes a week at about $1 an episode, with 12 million lifetime downloads. Each episode needs only about 20 listeners to make a profit. The same report described the output as quantity over quality, and the company still has people choose topics and review sensitive episodes.
A 2025 Microsoft Research study measured how much of each job's tasks AI chatbots can help with, using 200,000 real conversations. Producers and directors, the government category that includes podcast producers, came out 327th of 785 jobs, a little above the middle, and audio and video technicians 310th. BLS projects producer and director jobs to grow 4% from 2025 to 2035, about as fast as the average for all jobs, with about 12,100 openings a year. There is no separate government count of podcast producers.
That adds up to the rubric's "3 Moderate". AI takes a meaningful share of the production work, so shows need fewer assistant editors and production helpers, and cheap AI shows compete for the same advertising money. But the podcasts that earn real money are built on human hosts and their audiences, and producing those (booking guests, shaping stories, running a show) is still a human job.
What would change this score. If AI-made shows start taking a large share of listening and ad money from human ones, or studios cut producer roles as AI editing tools spread, it goes to 4. If AI stays a production tool and demand for human-hosted shows keeps growing, it could drop to 2.
