Campus Beauty
Beautiful

Hamilton has a well-known 'Light Side / Dark Side' campus divide — athletes and social club members on one side, artsy and alternative students on the other — though it's more playful rivalry than real animosity. Greek housing was removed in 1995, but fraternities and literary societies still exist with about 17% participation. The open curriculum means no distribution requirements, which attracts independent thinkers, and the writing program is a genuine point of pride.

Perched on a hilltop in rural New York with panoramic views of the Chenango Valley, Hamilton's mix of historic stone buildings, the stunning Wellin Museum, and 1,350 wooded acres creates one of the most scenic liberal arts campuses in the country.

Based on Niche reviews, Princeton Review surveys, student forums, and institutional data.

Insider Tips
Walk through Root Glen -- shale-lined trails winding through forest with a trickling stream, wildflowers, and ferns. It's the most beautiful hidden corner of campus and students treat it as a sanctuary.
Don't step on the bronze campus map embedded in the ground near the Chapel -- Hamilton tradition says anyone who walks across it won't graduate.
Visit during Feb Fest (February) for snow sculpture contests, a chili cook-off, 'snoccer' (soccer in the snow), and chocolate tastings -- it's when Hamilton's community spirit peaks in the dead of winter.
Drive 5 minutes to the Clinton Cider Mill, a family-owned operation for over 100 years making some of the best apple cider and cider donuts in upstate New York.
Best Time to Visit

September-October for stunning fall foliage in the Mohawk Valley and full campus energy. April for admitted student events. Feb Fest in February is uniquely fun. Avoid late December and early January when campus is empty and Clinton is deep in winter.
