AI Risk Assessment
Supply chain analysts forecast demand, plan inventory, track shipments and suppliers, and look for ways to move goods more cheaply and reliably. A good part of that is number work that planning software and AI increasingly do on their own, such as producing routine forecasts and flagging unusual orders. A 2025 Microsoft Research study measured how much of each job's tasks AI chatbots can help with, using 200,000 real conversations. Logisticians, the government job category that covers most supply chain analysts, came out 343rd of 785 jobs, right in the middle. Operations research analysts, who do the heavier modeling side, came out 85th, in the top 11%.
We used to rate this a 4 (High). Two of the three figures behind that could not be found in any source, so we lowered it to 3. What we did find: the staffing company Randstad, analyzing over 126 million job postings worldwide, reported in September 2025 that postings for junior logistics roles (0 to 2 years of experience) had fallen 25% since January 2024, and it said AI contributed to the drop in entry-level postings generally. That is the rubric's entry-level factor, and it is why this is not a 2. But the government expects strong demand: BLS projects logistician jobs to grow 18% from 2025 to 2035, much faster than the average for all jobs, with about 26,600 openings a year, because online shopping keeps making supply chains bigger and more complex. Operations research analyst jobs are projected to grow 12%.
What would change this score. If US entry-level supply chain and logistics analyst postings keep falling while BLS's growth fails to appear, it goes back to 4. If junior postings recover as AI planning tools spread, it drops to 2. The Randstad figure is global and covers all logistics roles, not just analysts, so it is a warning sign rather than proof.
