LEGO master builders design, build and repair the brick models at LEGOLAND parks and LEGO attractions. The jobs are few and are often filled by contest. When LEGOLAND New York hired a Master Model Builder in 2024, it ran a "Brick Factor" competition with timed builds for one full-time role. The work is hands-on and in front of the public: that job covers designing, building and maintaining more than 15,000 models made from over 30 million bricks, plus teaching building classes and talking with guests.

AI has taken a first step into brick design. In 2025, Carnegie Mellon researchers released BrickGPT, an AI model that turns a text prompt into a stable brick model that people or robot arms can then put together. It works on small models, inside a 20 x 20 x 20 grid using eight standard brick shapes. That is far from the large sculptures master builders make, so it is something to watch, not a threat today.

For a new graduate, the real limit is the job market, not AI. Openings are rare and some pay little: in 2023 a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Birmingham, UK, advertised three assistant master model builder jobs at £21,500 a year, close to the UK minimum wage, on 12-month contracts. There is no government count of this job.

We keep this at 1: the core of the work is building by hand and working with guests, which AI cannot do. What would change the score: tools like BrickGPT growing to large, display-quality models so parks need fewer designers, or robots doing the building.
